Laura Blair
I am Laura Blair. I’m a performer, I dance, I sing, I model and most of all I act! I have been in the world of showbiz all my life and have had incredible opportunities and experiences that I can’t even begin to explain. From backing dancing with JLS to sharing the same stage as Bon Jovi, Cheryl Cole and Shakira. From performing on a West End stage to a live performance in front of 12,000 people. I have worked in front of the camera since the age of 11 and have appeared on various programs such as Hollyoaks, Northern Lights, MTV, ITV, BBC.
Most recently I had the lead in a commercial filmed for the president of Azerbaijan, danced with Kimberly Wyatt of the Pussycat Dolls, filmed a pilot episode with Endemol which follows the lives of Beautiful people with interesting lives for BBC3, I have the lead in Junior Brats new music video ’Fly to the moon’ (an upcoming British rapper), and lastly I am set to move up north to film the lead in a new vampire movie which starts in April. It’s so exciting, and I owe a lot to my publicist at www.portalpr.net who is helping me and my girl group ‘Rococo’ take the world by storm over the next year. Watch out!
If you were turned into a fashion designer right now, what kind of dress would design?
My dress would be covered from head to toe in diamonds, real ones! It would be low cut, back less and floor length with a little train. Yes you guessed, it’s a showstopper. I would get Dame Westwood to help me out, you can’t go wrong with a bit of Vivienne. She is my fashion inspiration from my clothes right down to my hair!
If politics and religion was wiped off the surface of the world, what kind of place would it become?
It’s probably naive of me to say a peaceful one, but all the wars in the world seems to be caused by politics and religion. People would still find something to argue about!
What got you into modelling/acting?
I never purposefully entered the world of modelling, it’s something I’ve never really though was possible because I’m a shorty at 5”6. I kept getting approached by agencies, photographers and designers so I gave it a go. I love it! It’s like playing dress up when you are a child. I’ve embraced my ghostly white skin and my red hair and it seems quite popular in the modelling industry.
What is your favourite car?
I’ve always wanted a red sports car convertible with a licence plate that says ‘Don’t Touch‘. I don’t know why! I keep asking Santa for one each year but I don’t think he’s getting the message.
Where is heaven on Earth for you?
Heaven on earth is Abercrombie & Fitch. Clothes and hot men, need I say anymore!
Not everyone goes far in the fashion world, how far will you try to advance?
I am primarily an actress, modelling is something which happened unexpectedly so I’m not sure how far I will get. My passion lies in performing and I concentrate on that 100% of the time. Although every modelling work I am assigned I get so involved in it, a treat it like a role in a drama. I constantly ask for the story behind the photographs or the show!
How do you think a man should groom?
I like men to look like they haven’t groomed. By all means groom just as long as it hasn’t looked like they’ve spent hours in front of the mirror sculpting a master piece on top of their head.
It’s a cliché that fashion designers are mostly gay, do you think that’s a perceived barrier for straight people entering?
Not at all. I think the fashion industry had its doors wide open for straight designers and anyone scared to enter hasn’t got the gut and tenaciousness to be a fashion designer.
What is your career plan for this year?
My plan is baby steps. Since graduating from theatre school in July each job has gradually got better and bigger. It’s takes luck to land a big job straight away, it takes talent and determination to climb your way up the ladder.
Everyday we see people on reality TV being turned into overnight celebrities, do you think people really see through their talents?
Reality TV is an interesting concept. It mostly produces 5 minute celebrities, but if they really have talent they shine through. It’s sometimes a fast track to doing what you want to do so I would never rule it out.
