Eva Mendes wore a gorgeous red dress to the Tribecca Film Festival in New York recently, but it was her killer red hot lips that caught our eye. The actress’ makeup artist Genevieve Herr, reportedly made a custom creation lipstick blend to match Eva’s dress. She started off with Lancome L’Absolu Nu in Coral Evanescent and finished with a matte red for a brightening boost with Lancome’s Color Design Matte in Corset. The Fame Addiction

best-celebrity-chef-superstar-magazine

So what lengths would you go to be famous? It concerns me what people will do to try and achieve fame, whilst I don’t pass judgement on people trying but I do question their morals and values. I have had many friends that have tried and still are trying to achieve fame – sadly they have gone down the wrong road and ended up somewhere they shouldn’t be. I do remember the conversations we had on ‘boundaries’ and they swore blind they wouldn’t overstep them. That’s a different story now- I have come to learn that the need for fame is a lot like the need for chocolate. It looks appealing, and it makes you…

Does Reality TV Need a Reality Check?

big-brother-superstar-magazine

Widely regarded as car crash television, some have even labelled it the lowest common denominator, but whether we like it or not, the past 10 years have very much belonged to reality television. Having gripped a nation, it has dominated our tabloids and transformed ordinary members of the public into overnight stars – Leona Lewis, Will Young, Jade Goody and Alexandra Burke, to name just a few. But as we begin a new decade, has time run out for the Victorian freak show that is reality television? Let us start by asking ‘what is meant by ‘Reality Television?’ By definition, it is a relatively new and diverse concept and thus hard to contextualise, but one…

Balance Free vs. Paid Jobs – Baby, You Can’t Have Me for Free!

superstar-magazine-catwalk-star

I mean, at least buy me dinner first. I’m kidding. But not really. What this is really about: paid jobs vs. unpaid jobs. When is it enough, and when is it too much? Personally, I don’t ever feel like I’m working for “free”. Chances are, if you’re new in the business – whatever it is, be it fashion or dance or acting or, I don’t know, llama-surfing, the fact is, you have to make a name for yourself. The easiest way to do this is to take on unpaid jobs where – hopefully – you not only get a feel for the job, but they get a feel for you. I don’t mean random people…

Avoid Bad Photographers – Models Safety

superstar-magazine-do-i-look-illegal-photographer

Lights, camera and action! Before you know it, you are on the front cover of Vogue with your rat on a rope (dog) by your side and your manservant Manfred waiting on your hand and foot. 2,3,1 and your back in reality, reality being a pushy photographer making you do things that you did not plan to do because apparently it gives an ‘arty’ impression! Putting the joking aside, embarking on a modelling career if not done correctly can put you into some tricky situations. It does not matter what path you take whether it be high fashion or glamour. There will always be a man or a woman with a camera doing things they…

Catwalk Curves: Back to Marilyn Monroe – Part 1

Catwalk-Curves-Back-to-Marilyn-Monroe-Superstar-Magazine-003

Marilyn was THE style icon of the 50’s and beyond. She’s still the most admired figure from a different era with the most appealing body. Apart from her contribution to the fashion industry, she is, to many- the IDEAL woman, the IDEAL icon AND the IDEAL model. And yet she was 5ft 5½ and a size 10! So why is it now that the ideal is to be an unhealthy size ZERO imposed by the fashion industry? It is hard for many young girls and women to relate to the image given on the catwalk. Yes these models are stunning and have amazingly striking looks. However when some have starved themselves for the sake of…

I Don’t Know Who You Are, Superstar!

superstar-magazine-susanne-boyle

And chances are, you have no idea who I am either. I don’t have the right to write this (got to LOVE homonyms) but working backstage in the fashion industry, being a performer and a Psychology student means that I tend to want to help people more than I should. You are not at all obligated to read this. BUT if you’re an aspiring artiste, you might find this amusing. And guess what! I’ve even put the jobs in alphabetical order, so you can’t accuse me of playing favourites na-na-na! Please find the correct job description and take it from there. Otherwise we’ll all be buying wrinkle cream by the time you get a fraction…
