We caught up with Benny to find out what is was like working with Gary Go, Chris Brown, to discover what the KEY to a catchy tune is and just generally learn what life is like when you’re the Godfather of Electro…music lovers read on!
Q1. So Benny, your new album ‘Electroman’ includes great collaborations with the likes of T-pain, Chris Brown, Kelis, apl.de.ap and British singer/songwriter Gary Go. Tell us more about the album and what it was like working with these talents?
A: Hey, I work with my cousin Alle Benassi. He’s my musician and producer. We wanted to see what out bass would sound like with different vocal styles. So we started talking to different artists we like and sending them beats. We had some great reactions and some great songs came out of it, too, I think. We have built up a massively creative relationship with Gary Go,who has various tracks on the album. Thanks, Gary!
Q2. Why in your opinion have collaborations become more and more popular in the current music industry?
A: People like songs. Songs sound good on the radio! So dj-producers team up with singers, songsters, rappers…. It makes sense. We get songs out of it! It’s true singers are also collaborating a lot. Things are opening up. Nice…
Q3. Your known as the ‘Godfather of Electro’ that’s a pretty precious title! How does it feel to have such massive recognition for your music?
A: Hey, it’s a tag other people pinned on me… quite a responsibility, huh?
Q4. It’s festival season! Which festivals are you looking forward to most and how do the crowd reactions differ from country to country for you?
A: I’m looking forwards to playing Creamfields for the first time in UK enormously. And I’m happy to be back at Pukkelpop in Belgium again this year, it’s a great festival, for sure. I’ve been playing a lot of North American festivals recently, so it’s great for me to balance it out with some action in Europe, too. I guess every festival has its own special vibe. If you play at Red Rock in Colorado or Coachella, the natural setting is breathtaking, for example.
Q5. Being a Teen Journalist, I always ask a questions for the teenagers wanting to emerge into the industry! What advice would you give to young DJs wanting to make it big in the music scene?
A: Be yourself, develop your own thing.
Q6. Your music is incredibly catchy! What in your opinion is the most important ingredient for a catchy tune? the lyrics, melody or the production/beats?
A: Thanks! it’s quite new for me that people think of my music as “catchy”… for many years the adjective was “noisy”
). Don’t have any recipes, because the only rule is there are no rules….
