Carolina Herrera presented a classic collection with elegant red gowns, beautiful red-carpet-worthy dresses and chic separates for Autumn/Winter 2012 at New York Fashion Week. Stunning ballgowns were sharpened with angles and breathtaking silk dresses had a touch of print, with most cinched in with Japanese obi-inspired belts. She also had fabulous knee-length wool skirts with an range of sparkly, fur, and feathered sweaters, cropped jackets, and wrap coats. Jenny Packham presented a 40s-inspired collection of sequined, curve-conscious evening wear at New York Fashion Week. Packham’s perfectly coiffed film noir girls hit the catwalk in a bevvy of the designer’s era-infused shorter frocks — all with bow-tied red or black belts — hitting that pitch-perfect styling note between pretty and sexy. There are the softer gowns in pretty pastel pink and blue, some which we suspect fan Kate Middleton will gravitate toward. Diane Von Furstenberg showed off an absolutely gorgeous runway show at New York Fashion Week. The theme of the collection was “rendezvous,” further explained in the show notes as “glamorous at a moment’s notice.” The outcome was sexy, effortless French-inspired dressing in the way of formfitting wool jersey dresses, wrap skirts, office-appropriate separates, and drapey asymmetric jumpsuits. The key trends were sheer insets, high slits, halter and racerback details, and the key colours were raspberry, seafoam green, scarlet red, dark teal, black, mustard yellow. Victoria Beckham displayed a very strong Autumn/Winter 12 collection at New York Fashion Week. The designer offered up her usual sleek, body-conscious dresses, but this time with a decidedly utilitarian touch. The military-chic collection was sexy, without being aggressively so, and was punctuated by belted waists, elbow-length sleeves, and high, collared necklines. Max Azria took us beyond Herve Leger‘s bandage dress and presented his signature sexy style but with an equestrian twist for New York Fashion Week. For every curve-conscious silhouette, their were strapped bodices or gladiator-inspired footwear. Key trends were fetish, harnesses, leather, fur and key colours included, black, white, nude and burgundy. If it takes a confident woman to pull off Léger’s more typical body-con wear, for this season’s offerings — complete with leather harnesses and fur detailing — only the fiercest of fashion enthusiasts need apply. Monique Lhuillier presented a beautiful collection at New York Fashion Week. Pretty much synonymous with full-on dramatic glamour, the designer showed of silk gowns, covered with beads, or even in leather. The key colours were black, red and gold. Charlotte Ronson presented an urban-cool collection for Autumn/Winter 2012, at New York Fashion Week. The designer offered warm, gorgeous colours, with sophistication, yet a cool-girly edge. The key trends were graphic prints, slick leather, fur, cutouts and menswear-inspired trousers. Colour wise, black, red, yellow and camels all stood out. A key item from the collection was a must have black leather jacket over the femme red pleated dress and tights; the utilitarian tweed jacket with zips and pockets. Nicole Miller went with 70s boho-chic for her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection at New York Fashion Week. Topping off off the trends were her graphic prints, fringe-trimmed dresses, and flares with floppy hats (JLo-esqe). There was barely a look that didn’t hit the runway with a hat to top it all. Miller’s collection offered a taste of all the super cool and glam looks whether it were velvet flares, striped and coloured leather jackets, bold abstract prints, you could see on any of the era’s rocker chicks.
