Chris Daughtry Performs A Cover Of ‘In The Air Tonight’ By Phil Collins And It’s Too Good To Miss
Chris Daughtry has come a long way from performing cover tunes of the judge’s choosing on “American Idol.” The season five contestant now calls the shots as the leader of his own band Daughtry and picks songs that inspire him to cover, such as Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”
Daughtry took the infamous Collins tune and reworked it to fit his own signature style. The Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter has said he is greatly influenced by Collins’ work and this was a way to honor his accomplishments. Collins made his solo debut with the haunting rock tune in 1981.
“In the Air Tonight” is Collins sad ode to first wife Andrea Bertorelli. Said Collins in 2005 of the song, “”I was just fooling around. I got these chords that I liked, so I turned the mic on and started singing. The lyrics you hear are what I wrote spontaneously.”
