Commuters Get Captivated By An Unexpectedly Fun Staircase And Decide To Ditch The Escalator!
Commuting can be a drag and taking the escalator becomes routine and redundant and that’s just the way it is, right? Wrong! It doesn’t have to be that way! Believe it or not taking the stairs can be fun and obviously better for your health. Despite people being encouraged to take the stairs for more exercise, they need a little enticing and that’s where Volkswagen comes in…
If you are scratching your head, you’re not alone. The vehicle manufacturer, Volkswagen, decided to challenge themselves and figure out a way to get more people to take the stairs instead. The company has dubbed this the “’fun theory’ where they test people’s clever and innovative solutions to dilemmas, such as encouraging more people to wear seat belts and prompting more people to scale the stairs.”
The company chose to test out the “fun theory” on the public transportation system in Odenplan, Stockholm, a huge commuter hub that has both an escalator and stairs. They transformed the stairwell into white and black piano keys by taping up the stairs and laying down electronic panels on the concrete steps. Watch the commuters’ shift when they see the piano stairs!
